THE 2021 MOOD:
.
UNMASKED EXPRESSION & Above the keyboard dressing / Autumn Winter 2021 TRENDS:
.
.
Rewind to 2020, it was year of a lot of emotional highs and lows, and after a year inside & behind screens, consumers are yearning to brighten their days and show self-expression through their clothing, shoes and accessories. Unmasked expression as we "hide" behind our masks and behind computer screens, we may still be wearing sweatpants on the bottom in 2021, but we (more than ever) desire to dress up & show off our creativity...a push above keyboard dressing. We want to create a sense of personal style from the waist up oozing with individuality.
.
We now live in duality...where fantasy and practicality meet. Escapism is KEY. Emotion is driving our purchasing decisions. We're trapped in our homes, cities and need escapism.
.
Comfort still ties into our new way of living, and it's comfort that will drive the emotional value of a purchase. Top of mind is still sustainability, and with that we can explore updated retro themes but aim for versatility and function. Transitional styles that create easy layering.
.
Consumers are 30x more likely to have brand infinity if they tap into exclusivity and sustainability. Brands that deliver a strong emotional identity with social or functional benefits is key. In 2020, we all tried new things at home (whether it's baking or DIY). So how do we want to dress in 2021? With a sense of rebellion, we will be bolder, exploring new prints, bold colors, with a more visceral effect when in Zoom meetings.
.
Embrace hybrid function (multi-functional wardrobe items) where casualization creates versatility (dress up or dress down and of course it has be timeless). Add optimistic and restorative color. Invest in brights that feel invigorating to complement core neutrals and invest in performance innovation (sustainable materials). Learn to live with less.
.
We will definitely be upping our SHOE GAME this year too. Who says you can't wear heels with sweatpants? 2021 has us adorned in statement jewelry, handmade accessories, vintage finds, boutique brands, and FUN SHOES.
.
01 / CABINCORE & VINTAGE FUTURIST
.
The Cabincore Escapist is all about embracing the rugged outdoors. Think quilted jackets, fuzzy warm sweaters, and turtlenecks in unearthed textures and transient florals...but cinched with a Gucci or Sergio Hudson belt and paired with a streamlined chelsea boot.
.
Vintage Futurist combines clothing of yesteryear think Sweet AND Street. Vintage-inspired styles to conjure nostalgia, and nothing is more sustainable than "thrift shopping". We love the exaggerated collars, puffy sleeves, and decorative statement coats. Mixed patterns and new shapes pair well with square toe pumps!
.
02 / FOLKLORIST & NEW TRADITIONALIST
.
The Reimagined Folklorist taps into our ancestry with folk-inspired brocades or prints in modern shapes. Mixed patterns in bold hues shine. A pointed shoe is a must-have to amplify this look. Another shoe trend is the party mule.
.
The New Traditionalist is the relaxed sartorialist. Relaxed suiting calls for clean menswear-inspired shoes to ground and structure the loose suit aesthetic, paired with a square toe slipper or architectural slingback shoe.
.
03 / SURVIVALIST
.
The Off-Grid Survivalist is living off the grid, slow living and ready for anything while looking smart. Wearing quilted fabrics and utilitarian pieces where  practicality meets style. Get a hiking boot or utilitarian sneaker boot to complete the look with ease.
.
04 / SCANDINAVIAN
.
The Scandi Dreamer isn't afraid of color and is all about color-blocking - think 70s psychedelia. Trippy music, saturated primary colors mixed with pastels to give a quirky, Scandinavian, retro feel. Layering is key, from bright stockings, to an array of layered tops with volume. Interesting mixed media heels shine.
.
05 / WORKLEISURE
.
The Workleisure Dresser cares about comfort and mobility while still craving a way to dress up a sweatsuit. Rock your sweats but top them with a topcoat and don't forget a neutral color-blocked statement sneaker or two.
.
06 / CRAFTER & HOSTESS
.
The Imperfect Crafter has been busy at home, making bread & making clothing and she's ready to show off her skills. Handmade details, embroidery, patchwork, and updated vintage adornment rule. Winter sandals and streamlined Chelsea Boots let all that art & hard work shine.
.
The House-Party Hostess wants to "partyscape" merging party & an at-home lifestyle. Sophisticated with nods of comfort but a completely pulled together look. Think party sweaters, dresses, sparkle, and statement heels! She is ready to host a party, even if it's on Zoom again.
.
